WHEN SHOULD I START TRAINING MY PUPPY?

º

Great question! I have some news for you though…training is happening ALL the time.
You started training them car manners on that first ride home. You started training them household rules the second you stepped foot in your home.

So the answer to your question is, you already are!
Starting at 10 weeks old puppies should be learning how to be quiet in the crate and stop puppy biting. Almost everything should be reward-based at this age. Carry your puppy’s food with you everywhere you go and reward the puppy for any good behavior you see. Now is a great time to start practicing “come when called”.

Here at Be the Boss Dog Training we start basic obedience at 15 weeks old. We start teaching the puppy crate manners, go to their dog bed on command, and walk politely on a leash. We also start correcting for any unwanted behaviors at this stage, like jumping up on people, barking and so forth.
Remember to always reward good behavior and correct any unwanted behavior. Your human world is foreign to young puppies and they need guidance. To have the clearest form of communication you will need to tell the puppy when they are doing something good, and stop them from doing any bad behaviors that may be dangerous.
